ChandraBabu Naidu – the pride of AP and the name that echoes in the minds of Telugu people as a beacon of development and resourcefulness. With his style of functioning, fondly called as CEO of AP , Chandrababu Naidu was born in the year 1950 on 20th April in the Naravaripalli village of Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh. He is from a modest farmer family and was born to an average household farmer N K Naidu and a tremendously hard working rural Indian housewife, Ammanamma, gave birth to a little boy.They named him Chandra.
Chandrababu Naidu had his school education in Chandragiri and his college education at the Sri Venkateswara Arts College, Tirupati. He also earned a Masters degree in Economics from the Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati and pursuing his Ph.D. at the same university he ventured into politics.
Chandrababu Naidu is married to Mrs. Bhuvaneswari and has a son Lokesh. His father-in-law, the late legendary actor and politician Mr. N.T. Rama Rao, who was one of the most accomplished film actors of Telugu cinema, later founded the Telugu Desam Party and was also the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.
At a very young age, CBN held various positions of office in his college. In 1978, he was elected to the AP Legislative Assembly from the Chandragiri constituency in Chittoor district on an Indian National Congress ticket. He worked as a Tanguturi Anjaiah Cabinet minister and held various portfolios like Archives, Cinematography, Technical Education, Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development, Public Libraries, and Minor Irrigation between 1980 to 1983.
He also served as the Chairman of the State Karshak Parishad. But lost the elections from Chandragiri in 1983. However, he later got elected as the State legislature from Kuppam constituency of Chittoor district in 1989. At the age of 28, not only did he become an MLA, but also the youngest minister in the AP cabinet.
The leadership duties of TDP fell on the shoulders of CBN at a most critical juncture. Chandrababu Naidu succeeded N.T.Rama Rao, the founder of Telugu Desam Party and the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh. He was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh on 1st September, 1995. Even after the NTR death, CBN led TDP to victory in the following State Assembly elections, and on 11th October, 1999 he was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh for the second term.
During his rule in the state, CBN fashioned himself as a tech-savvy chief minister with a managerial style of functioning. He came out with a “Vision 2020” for the state and declared that he preferred to be known as the chief executive rather than the chief minister of the state.

Top of all, CBN was also chosen as one of the top 50 leaders at the forefront of change in the year 2000 by the Business Week magazine for being an unflinching proponent of technology and for his drive to transform the AP State.
Titled “Plain Speaking”, co-authored by Ninan Sevanti, focuses on changing strategies of governance, hurdles in pursuing reforms and the need to break free from the politics of populism.
